讲座主题

Robert D. Blackwill:The Future of U.S.-China Relations(需报名)

Why are U.S.-China relations currently in a downward spiral, and what can be done about it? In Ambassador Blackwill’s judgment, both the U.S. and China are responsible for the deterioration of the bilateral relationship because the two governments currently strive for an illusionary primacy in the Indo-Pacific region. Washington had enjoyed primacy in Asia for five decades and still desires it, whatever it says publicly; whereas Beijing, mistakenly inspired by the alleged long-term U.S. decline, seemed to implement a grand strategy to acquire primacy in Asia. Nevertheless, as attractive as primacy may be in theory, Washington should accept that under foreseeable circumstances and given the variously impressive dimensions of rising Chinese power, the U.S. can no longer maintain the option of broad-based primacy in Asia. At the same time, the United States certainly has its internal and alliance resources, if deployed adequately, to prevent Chinese primacy in the Indo-Pacific.(报名方式见文末)
